Making dinners ahead of time can be a great time saver in the kitchen. You can save yourself so much time during the week nights by preparing dinners during the weekend.
Most of the dinners that you make in advance can last in the fridge or freezer.
What about lasagna? With all the meats, cheese, and sauces involved, are you able to make lasagna ahead of time?
Will it last until you’re ready for it?
Lasagna is a great dinner to make ahead of time. When you prepare lasagna ahead of time, you have two options. You can either choose to cook your lasagna or just pre-assemble it before placing it in the fridge or freezer.
If you plan on using it in the next few days, the fridge can be a great option. If you want to use it a little later in the week or even the next week, storing it in the freezer would be better.
Either way, making your lasagna ahead of time will make your evenings a whole lot easier.
How Long Can You Keep Premade Lasagna In The Fridge?
After you have spent time in the kitchen preparing your week’s worth of dinners, one question remains. Where are you going to store it all?
Deep freezers can come in handy, but not everyone has one. You can also store your lasagna in the refrigerator, but how long will it last?
Your pre-assembled lasagna can last in the fridge for up to three days. If you plan on using it any later than that, it is a good idea to place it in the freezer.
You can also choose to bake it and then place it in the fridge or leave it unbaked. However, if you choose to bake it and place it in the fridge, be sure to give the lasagna plenty of time to cool down before placing it in the fridge.
If you place the lasagna in the fridge while it is still warm, your lasagna may end up becoming soggy. There will be too much moisture in your lasagna if you place it in the fridge too soon.
How Long Can You Keep Premade Lasagna In The Freezer?
Lasagna is a must have on your list of comfort foods. Life has a way of sneaking up on you and taking what was a good day and turning it into something else.
Everyone has some rough days when they just need a good cry or some good comfort food. When one of these days sneak up on you, you can have a lasagna ready to go in your freezer.
But how long can you keep that premade lasagna in the freezer for?
Premade lasagna can last for up to three months in the freezer. You can also choose to make a full lasagna or smaller portions depending on the size of your family.
When you make your lasagna and plan on freezing it, it is best to place it in the freezer before baking.
You should also take into consideration the dish that you are preparing your lasagna in as well. You will want it in a dish that doesn’t only hold up well in the freezer but can last in the oven as well.
Can You Put Frozen Lasagna Straight Into The Oven?
After a whirlwind of a day, it is great knowing that you have a dinner already made and ready to go in the freezer. However, some of the foods you have stored in the freezer might end up needing to thaw before being ready to eat.
What about your lasagna? Do you need to thaw it before baking or can you place it straight in the oven?
You can take your lasagna straight from the freezer and place it in the oven. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees, put foil over your lasagna, and place your lasagna in the oven.
Allow your lasagna to cook in the oven for 60-75 minutes. The heat and time will allow your lasagna to be heated thoroughly, melt the cheeses, and also the sauce.
You can also choose to thaw your lasagna as well. The best way to thaw your lasagna is by placing it in the fridge the day before.
After allowing lasagna to thaw thoroughly, you can place it in the oven for 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
How Do You Pre-assemble Lasagna?
If you like to plan ahead, pre making dinners is a great way to put your skills to use in the kitchen. If you love all things pasta, lasagna is a great option to make ahead of time.
Lasagna is easy to plan ahead and pre-assemble ahead of time. You can follow these steps when assembling your lasagna.
- Gather your ingredients
- 6 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 cups pasta sauce
- 1 15 oz container of ricotta cheese
- 2 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Cook the beef: Cook the beef in a large skillet on medium-heat. Stir until there is no more pink. Drain the grease and stir in the pasta sauce.
- Begin Assembling: Pour in ⅓ of the meat sauce into a baking sheet. Layer with three noodles and half of the ricotta and mozzarella. The layer of the ricotta should be thin. Pour more sauce over the cheese, add the remaining noodles and cheese. Pour the remaining sauce on top of the cheese mixture.
- Wrap the lasagna: Wrap your lasagna tightly with plastic wrap and foil. This will prevent any air reaching your lasagna in the fridge or freezer. Be sure to wrap the entire dish and not just the opening.
- Label the lasagna: Whenever you place food in the freezer, it is best to label it. This way, you will know when you need to use the food before it goes bad.
Your pre-assembled lasagna will last for three days in the fridge or for three months in the freezer.
Next time you take a day and spend it making dinners for the week, be sure to add lasagna to your list. You can either choose to place it in the fridge if you plan on eating it in three days or in the freezer if you are planning on eating it at a later date.
You can always have comfort food ready to go when you have a make ahead lasagna in your freezer.
