When using oil in a nonstick pan, you can use olive oil as long as you don’t heat it up too high. If you need to heat the oil to a higher temperature, say for frying, then use canola oil, vegetable oil, corn oil, or even butter instead. 

What Can You Not Cook In A Nonstick Pan?

You should use your nonstick pan for dishes that often have trouble with sticking to the bottom of the pan. You can also use your nonstick pan for dishes that cook better without high heat. 

There are several things that can be cooked in a nonstick pan but there are also things that cannot be cooked in one. But which foods should you not cook in this type of pan?

Foods such as burgers, vegetable stir-fries, soups, sauces, etc. should not be cooked in a nonstick pan.

Flipping, tossing, and mixing is easier in a nonstick pan. Foods that normally stick are easier to cook in one of these pans. On the other hand, carmelizing, searing, or deglazing isn’t done well in a nonstick pan because of how it needs to cook.

The only downside to nonstick pans is that they take awhile to eat up and are fragile. 

You should avoid scrubbing the bottom of them or using metal utensils as this can scrape the bottom of the pan ruining the nonstick finish on it. 

Some foods that need to be easily flipped, tossed, or mixed cook well in a nonstick pan but other foods that need to be seared, caramelized, or deglazed dont cook well in them. All in all, you can fry in a nonstick pan if you wish to do so.
