If you grew up with a family who loved to grill, that may be the only way you’ve ever cooked meat. A grill can be fun, as long as you don’t accidentally make the flames huge very close to the house, and then you start screaming because you think the house is going to burn down!
Personal experience here…
Anyways, that experience made me say I would never touch a grill again. So how do I make hamburgers? I fry them!
Hamburgers can be fried in either a frying pan or griddle. Both of these options will work well to help you fry up your hamburgers rather than grilling them.
Although it is more popular to grill hamburgers, many people (myself included) prefer to fry them. Not only does it keep you from having to start up your grill (or risk burning down the house) but it will also allow you to keep a closer eye on your burgers and make sure that they don’t burn.
How Can You Fry A Hamburger?
Frying a hamburger is actually pretty simple. First, just pick how you like your meat. Either you can make your own hamburgers and put in your favorite flavors or you can get pre-made hamburger patties from the store. Whichever you decide, once you have your meat ready, you can start the process of frying a hamburger.
You will need either a frying pan or you can use a griddle. A griddle can cook more hamburgers at once while a frying pan is limited in space. With a frying pan you can cook 2-4 hamburgers, or with a griddle, generally you can cook 4-12 depending on the size of your griddle.
The process is the same though with either cooking appliance.
First you will need to get your favorite oil or non-stick spray for your pan. Put a generous amount of oil or non-stick spray on your cooking appliance. Once the pan is heated and your pan or griddle has the oil warmed, you can then add your hamburger patties. You will most likely need to warm each side for about 5 minutes each or until each side is cooked to your taste. Personally, I don’t like much pink in my hamburger so I cook mine a bit longer than most people.
When one side is done, flip the patties to the other side and let sit until cooked. When both sides of the patties are finished, then you can take them off and put on a serving tray.
My favorite toppings for a hamburger are cheese, bacon, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. My parents like to add fried onions as well. I have even seen hamburgers with all sorts of add toppings including peanut butter and jelly, but that’s not how I like my hamburgers.
You can add whatever you like to your hamburgers, and if you have a group of people you are serving, just put toppings out in a buffet style so people can add what they like. However you eat your hamburgers, there are a variety of different toppings to try.
Enjoying a hamburger is a classic dish to be served on a summer day. But if you don’t have a grill, you can easily fry the hamburgers in your kitchen. Depending on your kitchen appliance, either a frying pan or a griddle can fry your hamburgers to perfection.
There are a variety of toppings you can choose from to make your hamburger unique to you. Once you have built your personal hamburger to your taste, then you get to do the fun part. You get to eat it! Enjoy your hamburger!
Is It Better to Fry Or Bake A Hamburger?
Frying and baking hamburgers give the burgers different tastes. Depending on your cooking skills, you could either cook a good hamburger or a great hamburger. There are different health benefits as well depending on which you choose to do.
So depending on your taste and your health will depend on which is better, a baked hamburger or a fried hamburger.
If you’re looking at the time factor then the pan-fried option is the best way to cook a hamburger. A pan-fried burger takes between 5-10 minutes to produce. It will also give a crispy taste to the burger.
If you are using a cast iron works skillet to fry your hamburgers, then you most likely will not need any oil or non-stick spray for your pan. They also produce heat evenly and efficiently creating a very tasty burger. However, any other type of pan will require oil or non-stick spray.
If you are trying to limit the clogged arteries, then either get a cast iron skillet for your burgers or don’t fry them. However that is the benefit of frying a hamburger either in a regular pan or cast iron skillet.
If you wish to bake a hamburger, it takes longer to cook, about 20 minutes. However it takes less effort plus gives you a quicker cleanup process. Both of those factors come in handy when cooking for large groups.
If you are looking at the baking option, that will leave your hands free to prepare all your buns and toppings. So you are actually having multiple things being done at once. This is a big time saver in the end. It’s also a bit healthier to bake a burger as you aren’t having to keep oil on hand to fry them.
This will produce a less juicy burger, but a healthier option as the grease won’t be everywhere.
So the difference between a fried burger and a baked burger comes down to the grease being used and the time it takes to make it. If you really like a crispy, juicy burger in a short amount of time, then a fried hamburger is the way to go. If you’re not too worried about time and want a simpler process from start to finish, then baked is the best option.
So again, it all comes down to how you prefer your burger to taste. Crispy and juicy is pan-fried while simple and casual will be baked. Either way, you get your burger and enjoy how you have created your meal.
How Do You Make A Burger?
That classic burger you’re thinking of? The delicious and juicy meat made to perfection? Yes, it is possible to make. Making that perfect burger is within reach.
You of course have the option of buying pre packaged hamburger patties from your local store; however, there is that option of creating your own burger that makes the experience that much better.
So, how do you make the perfect classic hamburger?
The Classic Burger Recipe
Ingredients:
1 Pound Ground Lean Beef (7% fat preferable) 1 Large Egg
1/2 Cup Minced Onion
1/4 Cup Fine Dried Bread Crumbs
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire
1 or 2 Cloves Garlic, Peeled and Minced
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Teaspoon Pepper
4 Hamburger Buns (4 Inches Wide and Split) 1/4 Cup Mayonnaise
1/4 Cup Ketchup
4 Iceberg Lettuce Leaves, Rinsed and Crisped
1 Firm-Ripe Tomato, Cored and Thinly Sliced
4 Thin Slices Red Onion
1) In a large bowl, you will need to mix the ground beef, egg, onion, bread crumbs, Worcestershire, garlic, salt, and pepper until well blended. Next you will need to divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty 4 inches wide.
2) Lay the burgers on an oiled barbecue grill over a solid bed of hot coals or high heat on a gas grill, and then close the lid on the gas grill. You cook the burgers, while only turning once, until both sides are browned with no pink showing. You can cut them to test the inside if you want.
This will take 7-8 minutes total. Then you may remove them from the grill once complete.
3) Toast the buns on the grill, put them upside down for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4) Spread the mayonnaise and ketchup on the bun bottoms. Add lettuce, tomato,
burger, onion, salt, and pepper to taste in between the buns.
*Chef’s Notes: You need to make sure you cook your burgers to 160 degrees. A digital meat thermometer works great to make sure they are cooked while also keeping you from burning them. This recipe should help keep them moist.
This is a very popular recipe for a classic hamburger. A total of about 9-10 minutes for cooking makes it a quick and fun meal. However, you can always change up the toppings to your taste.
Eating a burger should be delicious and fun. Thankfully hamburgers come with endless possibilities and are extremely popular for any family meal.
