Cold foam is that foamy topping that is put on many iced coffee drinks. With cold foam, you can taste the frothy milk topping in every sip.

Using a method similar to frothing or steamed milk, tiny air bubbles form the foam that sits on top of your coffee beverage. Although it may look alot like whipped cream, it isn’t.

Cold foam is made with nonfat milk making it a healthier option. If it is a better topping to put on coffee, is cold foam keto-friendly?

Cold foam usually isn’t keto-friendly unless you substitute the skim milk for heavy cream and add some sugar-free vanilla syrup. Those on a keto diet will need to use milks that are keto friendly to make the cold foam.

On a keto diet, you can only have a small amount of carbs meaning you cannot have whole or skim milk unless you want it to take up your calorie coupon for the day. That being said, cold foam isn’t keto because it is made with nonfat (skim)  milk.

That is, unless you sub out the nonfat cows milk for something that is keto-friendly. Unfortunately, nut milks such as almond milk don’t foam up the same as regular milk when making cold foam because of the lack of protein in them.

So, when ordering or making a coffee beverage with cold foam that is keto-friendly, you will want to use heavy cream instead of skim milk. For added flavor use a sugar-free syrup like vanilla to complete your keto-friendly cold foam coffee.

The article, KETO COLD FOAM: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW, explains how to make cold foam keto-friendly by saying,

“To make the foam keto and sugar-free we need to add some fat to help it “frother. All unsweetened milk available for keto does not have enough protein to make foam-like non-fat milk has. So, we use liquid heavy cream to help froth the liquid…Pour the following ingredients together in a cup. 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream, 3 Tablespoons of unsweetened almond milk, liquid stevia, or monk fruit drops…Use handheld milk frother and froth ingredients together. Mix until desired thickness…Pour silky cream over cold brew coffee or coffee of choice.”

Does Cold Foam Have Carbs?

Cold foam is a yummy topping to iced coffee drinks. But if you are on a  strict diet you could be wondering if the foamy milk substance has carbs in it.

Cold foam does have carbs. It is made with skim milk and skim milk contains 12.5 grams of carbs per serving. On a keto diet, you can only consume 20 to 50 gram of carbs a day. So, one little coffee drink could be half of your whole carb intake for the day.

When you are on a keto diet you can only eat certain things. This low carb, high fat diet can offer a lot of health benefits to some people and help them to lose weight.

On keto, you can only consume 70% fat, 20% protein, and 10% carbs. Milk is high in carbohydrates so it generally cannot be consumed on a keto diet.

Unless it is the only carbs you are consuming all day.

But, you can substitute heavy cream, macadamia nut milk, flax milk, almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, pea milk. As you can see, cow’s milk should be avoided when on a keto diet.

How Do You Order A Keto Cold Foam From Starbucks?

Starbucks is a favorite coffee stop for many. However, if you are on keto you could be asking if you can order a cold foam coffee beverage that is keto-friendly at Starbucks.

Even if you are on a keto diet, you can still enjoy coffee topped with frothy cold foam. Ordering a keto cold foam Starbucks is easy. Just sub out the milk cold foam for heavy cream and for flavoring add some sugar-free syrup or artificial sweetener.

That’s it! The heavy cream will help to add some fat into your diet without all those extra carbs. The fat helps the liquid to froth up for that foamy topping that tastes so good.

Starbucks cannot make cold foam with almond or coconut milk because it doesn’t froth up the same as the nonfat milk does. So, when ordering one of these coffee beverages just substrate the milk for heavy cream.

It can be difficult to find exactly what you can and can’t eat on a keto diet but once you know what to ask for, you are all set. Now, you can still enjoy your cold foam coffee from Starbucks and stay on your keto diet.

Is Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam Keto?

Vanilla sweet cream cold foam is a delight in coffee. Its sweetness and creaminess adds so much to the iced beverage. But is this coffee topping keto-friendly?

Vanilla sweet cream cold foam is not usually keto-friendly. Typically it is made using nonfat milk and vanilla syrup. However, you can substitute some things to make the coffee topping keto.

We know that skim milk has carbs and keto requires less carbs. On a keto diet you also want to stay away from a lot of sugar and the vanilla in a sweet cold foam has plenty of sugar.

To make this coffee topping keto-friendly, let’s first sub out the skim milk for heavy cream. This is a better option because it has less carbs and because the fat content froths up wonderfully.

Then instead of the sugar-packed vanilla syrup, opt for a sugar-free vanilla syrup and there you go! Keto-friendly vanilla sweet cold foam that you can enjoy.

Final Thoughts

Cold foam typically isn’t keto, but you can make a keto version of the coffee topping. Because keto means you eat/drink less carbs and more fat, substitute the skim milk for heavy cream.

Nut milks can be used as well but they won’t froth up to create that foamy consistency the way cream will. If you want some flavor try sugar-free syrups.

Top your coffee with this delicious keto-friendly cold foam that you can enjoy while still meeting your goals.
