What Does Bad Pepperoni Look Like?

Almost everyone has experienced a smelly fridge at some point and time in their life. You open the fridge door to grab a drink when the most awful smell invades your nostrils. You either shut the door and leave the problem for someone else or you immediately begin searching for the smelly culprit.

After a bit of looking, you find something you had forgotten about in the back drawer of the fridge. Even though it’s still in the packaging, it has made your entire fridge stink. You for sure know that it’s bad and it’s time to throw it away.

What about food before it gets to that point of stinking up your fridge? With pepperoni, it already has some weird spots and has a little bit of a funky smell to it. How do you know when pepperoni is starting to go bad?

Although playing the game, which food item is making my fridge smell, might be fun to some, it is a game that most everyone tries to avoid. How do you know what pepperoni looks like when it’s starting to go bad?

There are a few signs to watch out for when checking to see if your pepperoni is still good.

One of the first things to look out for is brown pepperoni. Good pepperoni should be a shade of pink to red. Pepperoni slices may have small white pieces on them, but they are okay. Any spots on the pepperoni that look black, green, or gray in color mean that it is time to throw the pepperoni away.

The best way to tell if pepperoni has gone bad is by looking at it and checking for color quality.

If you are still unsure and feel that the pepperoni has been sitting in the fridge for longer than a few weeks, you can also check by smelling it. Pepperoni typically has its own unique smell, but when the smell starts to turn from pepperoni to more rotten eggs, it is going bad.

Some have even said that bad pepperoni can end up smelling like sewage as well. The best way to avoid the smell of sewage and rotten eggs in your fridge is by periodically checking in on the color of the pepperoni.
