Can You Use Milk As Creamer?

When you are looking for something to add to your coffee you are not just limited to creamers that you purchase at the store. What you add to your coffee is really only limited to your own taste preferences.

You can add milk to your coffee instead of creamer. Milk being added to coffee has been around a lot longer than coffee creamer has and it’s still incredibly popular.

Adding milk to your coffee will make it a creamier drink. Milk will also not add the extra sugar that gets added when you use a store bought creamer.

It also will not add the flavor that comes with creamer so you might want to add a flavored syrup. I personally get a variety of flavored syrups (found here) to make my coffee taste amazing!

How Do You Substitute Milk For Creamer?

If you are wanting to use milk instead of creamer in your coffee, tea, or hot chocolate it is a pretty simple process.

All you need to do to substitute milk for creamer is to add the amount of milk to your coffee that you would normally use if you were using creamer. You will then need to add flavors or sugar to taste.

It is so easy to use milk instead of creamer. It is what is called a cup for cup conversion. So, you would use milk in the same way that you would use regular creamer.

What Can You Use As A Substitute For Coffee Creamer?

There is a wide variety of things that you can use in place of creamer for your coffee.

Milk, oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk, half and half, and whipping cream are all good substitutes for coffee creamers.

Coffee Mate Creamer, the most popular creamer on the market, was first introduced in 1961. Before Coffee Mate Creamer was introduced, milk was often added to coffee.

This was a way to help cut the strength of the coffee and to make it creamier.

Oat milk is also a great substitute for creamer. Oat milk is a nice creamy substitute. It is a little sweeter than regular milk and slightly thicker.

Almond milk will give your coffee a little bit of a nutty flavor. Almond milk does come in a variety of flavors as well so if you want to add a little flavor to your coffee like you would with creamer this is a great substitute choice.

If you like the taste of coconut then you could use coconut milk in place of creamer for your coffee. Coconut milk is a great choice if you are lactose intolerant.

However, it is not going to be as creamy as other alternatives will be.

Half-and-half is also a great substitute for creamer. Half-and-half is half whole milk and half heavy whipping cream. So, this substitute will give you an even creamier coffee additive then you would get if you were using creamer or even plain milk.

Half-and-half does not have the added sugar that creamer would have but it also does not come in different flavors.

You can also use whipping cream in your coffee. This will give you an extra creamy coffee.

Is Milk The Same As Creamer?

Milk and creamer can both be used as an additive in coffee. But are they the same thing?

Milk and creamer are not the same thing. Creamer is typically a non-dairy sweetener that is used in coffee.

Creamer often does not even contain milk. It is usually made with water, vegetable oil, and sugar.

How Does Milk Affect Coffee?

All over the world dairy products are added to coffee. Different countries around the world serve their coffee with milk.

In Australia they have a flat white coffee, which is similar to a latte but with a slightly bolder flavor. This drink is a mix of espresso and steamed milk with a thick layer of microfoam.

Greece has a frappe which is a summertime drink made with instant coffee, water, sugar, and milk.

In France they serve a café au lait which is brewed coffee mixed in with steamed milk. There usually is no foam on top.

With all these countries around the world adding milk to their coffee you might want to know how milk will affect your coffee.

Adding milk to your coffee will cut the bitterness of the coffee and helps to cut the acidity of the coffee as well.

If you suffer from frequent heartburn then you have probably been told that you should cut coffee from your diet due to the acidity that is in coffee. Adding milk to your coffee can help cut the acidity down.

Adding milk to your coffee will also add some texture to your coffee, making it thicker. This will give it a velvety smooth texture.

How To Make Liquid Creamer With Powdered Coffee Mate

Nestlé’s Coffee Mate comes in both liquid and powder form. If you are using powder Coffee Mate you can simply add a teaspoon of your creamer to your hot cup of coffee and gently stir to mix it in.

However, if you are wanting to add the powdered creamer to your iced coffee or even your iced tea you will need to turn it into a liquid creamer.

The powdered creamer does not dissolve well in cold liquid. To add your powder Coffee Mate to a cold beverage you will first want to turn it into a liquid creamer.

You will need to bring a pot of water to a boil. Once your water is boiling you will then carefully fill a cup with the hot water. Add a half a cup of Coffee Mate powder and stir until it has been thoroughly dissolved.

Now you have a liquid creamer which you can add to your iced beverages. Simply add the amount of creamer that you want to your drink and enjoy.
